The part is tailor-made for her and she admits that she’s dying to do it, . .. The Jackies— Coogan and Cooper—are reported by the grapevine to be headed for the divorce mill,

I can just see the preacher performing the ceremony and saying, ‘ now pronounce you man and Wife. Long may you wave.'” M-G-M’'s new boss, Dore Schary, is sharpening up the hatchét for a chopping session. The studio willy rid itself of a Jot of very expensive producer deadwood. Ida Cantor has written three installments for the Satevepost on “My Life With Eddie.” . . . “Graylynn Is Proverbial Silver Lining,” says Traveling Man One of our current guests had

a little trouble this trip . . . Car trouble,

Seems he had to put his car in the shop and there was some difficulty getting parts. Mos: of the parts in questioh—according to the garage man— were being shipped to Finland, or China, or- someplace.

“But, outside of the pure loss of time,” says our guest, “the - layover hasn't been unpleasant, Myroom here is a honey, the food in the Blue Room leaves nothing to be desired— and the hotel staff has the wonderful knack of putting you at your ease. . . . Heck, my own club in Cleveland couldn't have treated me better!”

Latest reports indicate that our friend's car will be ready to roll tomorrow . . . He says, “The Graylynn is the silver lining to what might otherwise have been a pretty dark and solid cloud of bumrluck.” Thanks, pal, and good, safe motoring to you in the future . We mention this not to be boastful (heaven forbid) but with the hope that' you, too, will discover what a superfine place to stay the Graylynn really is.

Next trip, stay at the Graylynn.

Chorus Opens Seaso: ag = - With Capacity Hous By HENRY BUTLER . Clarence Elbert and the I dianapolis Maennerchor last nigi lopened their current season b fore a capacity audience in tr Athénaeum ballroom. Soloist of the -evening ws Dorothy Munger, regularly tt Maennerchor’s pianist. Mrs. Munger brought to he solo playing the facility and a: surance she long has demor strated in accompanying her prc gram, presented in two division between the Maennerchor’s thre groups, included Schumann “Carnaval,” which may hav proved difficult for some fe members of the audience incline’ to inattentiveness earlier in th evening.

Acoustics Prove Tricky

The Athenaeum ballroom ha tricky acoustics. Resonance an: echo seem to vary from place t« place in that huge room. Wher I sat last night, the empty o limeatone-cavern effect was especially pronounced, so it wasn’ too easy to judge precisel whether Mrs. Munger was getting the effects she meant to get. Som of her most successful playing was in Carl Philipp Emanue Bach's Rondo in B minor, wher her Incisive, vigorous. tone an« seemed admirably suited to the musical material. The Mozart B Flat Sonata which followed the opening Bach again was clear, save where th’ acoustics made generously-ped alled passages sound shrill. Thre capriccios of Brahms, demandin; force and dexterity, got both Mrs. Munger certainly get around the keyboard with shary clean accuracy that command respect. Uphold Choral Tradition Mr. Elbert's chorus, with it mellow, slightly melancholy ton quality, continues to uphold th fine Maennerchor tradition. Tw numbers early in the programthe Palmgren “8ing, Maiden Sing” and the Davis “Shepherds Awake!"—gave Mr. Elbert mor: than usual scope for conttas and expressiveness. Mr. Elbert certainly trains hi: chorus well. I'd like to sugges! and hope that his Athenagum audience would back him up in trying. (a) more Bach and other substantial old ‘echt deutsch” music, and /(b) a few fairly daring novelties.
