Ask Mrs. Manners—
“What to Do? Drinker’s
ife Poses a Problem
DEAR MRS. MANNERS: I MARRIED an older man and honestly believed I cared for him deeply and that my affections were returned. Almost from the day of our marriage he was insanely jealous, natural considering the difference in age, but I gave him nothing to worry about. I was content to be with him. He went into business and began taking company funds
for his own use. I tried to get him to be honest in business as well as with himself, but soon learned he was not the person I thought he was. He lost his business connection and my family paid my hospital bill when I had our baby. He began to drink heavily and through jealousy, together with his frustration, used physical violence on me. I went back to work soon after the baby was born. In several months he hasn't had one good job and I've kept up our home. He went into a small traveling business. It was not unusual for him to stay in a hotel and have all the liquor he wanted, but it was most unusual for him to send money home though he insists he adores the baby. I finally had all I could stand and sued for divorce. Then I learned I had become pregnant. I have a good job to which I am sure I could return after the baby is born, It goes without saying my problem is, shall I go ahead with the
|divorce, postpone it, or give up the idea entirely? I can never look
at my husband with respect, and his financial support would be prac-
tically nil. I've heard so much from people who know my husband's
passion for passing out bad checks and dodging bill collectors. How-
ever, it might be possible that there is a better side to him that
prosperity might help. Frankly, I see no future with him at all.|

Wife Falls in Love With Other Man
I THOUGHT I loved my husband, but in the past year I've met a guy where I work. I love him so terribly much I could never love my husband the same way. He is all I ever think about. He also is married and I don’t think he could ever be free, though I know he loves me very much. I am so unhappy. Should I tell my husband, who is jealous of me? UNHAPPY CITY WIFE. I wouldn't tell your husband that you are silly enough to think you could marry a man who probably wouldn't marry you if he could. - You're going to fool around and not be married to anyone. Husbands have a habit of finding other interests when their wives don't show them attention and fair play.
‘Widow Heartbroken as Suitor Is Jealous
I'M AN attractive middle-aged widow. I've been going with a gentleman and was engaged to him. I'm very much in love with him and he says he loves me more than anything but here is our trouble—he is so jealous for no reason. I only care for him. I don't smoke or drink-——am a home lover. He doesn’t even want me to speak to my women friends. He came in and one of my student roomers was using the phone. He got mad amd told me our wedding date was off. Before he left he
|asked me if I would still marry him. I don’t know what to do. It {will break my heart to give him up. — HEARTBROKEN, NORTH SIDE.
You wouldn't find his jealousy flattering as a steady diet— and you'd begin to doubt if the man you married was the catch you thought he was when his jealousy proved that he was unsure of himself and his abilities. He'd run away your friends with his rages—you’'d be without association with other people and without contentment because all the time you'd be arguing with him: You couldn't please him because he wouldn’t please himself—and he'd blame you. I'd break my .heart now Instead of later.
Vickie Seeks Whereabouts of Man
THERE IS a young man living in Indianapolis to whom I owe a great debt. I know his name but none of his relatives, and he doesn’t know my address. How can I get his address if he's living here? VICKIE. Of course you've checked the city directory and inquired at the post office for his last known address? . Several of you have asked about Pen Pal Clubs in foreign countries. The October issue of the Adult Education Journal lists Miss G. Alison Raymond as urging foreign correspondence to encourage international understanding. Write her in care of the United Nations Council of Philadelphia, 1411 Walnut St., Phildelphia (2). She asks that writers give their age, occupation, background and interests.
