IU Audience Gives Deserved Applause to French Orchestra

By HENRY BULLER Mausle

BLOOMINGTON, Ind, Nov. 3 —Charles Muench and the Orchestre National of France last night got, a tremendous and well deserved reception in Indiana University auditorium. The ovation which followed their performance of the “Symphonie Fantgstique” was a gesture both of musical appreciation and international friendship.

of our finest orchestra men. Yet the difference between national orchestral practices seldom was more clearly demonstrated than last night. The Orchestre National is hailed as the best French orchestra ‘to survive World War II. It sounds altogether different from our major

moderation. For when the visitors|

decided to open the throttle and let Berlioz really have it, the climaxes were terrific, as they were also in Walter .Piston’s “Toccata,” which is being introSueed in this tour of the orchesa.
