The presents came from well|wishers in Vinton and elsewhere. | There were candy and money and toys. They all pleased Richard, but he remained rather solemn. Then someone unwrapped bright red fire engine, told Richard what it was, and cranked its little siren. Richard giggled. “It was the first time he’s laughed in more than a month,” his mother, Mrs. George Sanquist, sald, - “It was like Christmas bells.” The fire engine came from anonymous friends in Corning, Towa. The whole Sanquist family was home for their Christmas. Richard’s father, a salesman, was there.. Helen, 12, who lost her sight from the affiiction that is killing Richard, came home from the State School for the Blind here, Gerald, 14, helped Richard play with his toys. VINTON, Iowa, Nov. 1 (UP)—The laughter of B-year-old Richafl Sanquist brought Christmas to his family.
