located at 3614 E. 36th St. Not far away from the present site of the school, George Rogers Clark chmped in the 1782 campaign for the Northwest. This was at E. 34th St. and Sherman Dr., where the first two-réom frame Township School No. 8 was erected in 1893. A new township school was built at 3614 E. 36th St. in 1924 and this was annexed by the city in 1929. It was given the choice number "unum" because the owiginal School No. | had been razed at Vermont and New Jersey Sts. Presiding over the 369 students at School No.'| is (left) Principal Mrs. Edith Shirley. Closer relationship between school and community is her constant aim and she has achieved notable success. : Hovering over her young-charges in the third panel is beloved teacher and’ counselor, Mrs. Jennie Buchanan. She began teaching ‘at School No. | in 1929 and has been a teacher for more than 40 years.
