neutral tone “fresh as the first snowflake.” Creators of the new trend advocated that white and light! tones be worn dramatically under dark winter coats or furs. These, new fashions in white are simply| styled so they may be worn with | tailored accessories for sports oc-! casions or with jewels for dinner and dancing. Favorite fabrics are rayon gabardines and wool jerseys. The “pretty and fragile” look, sought by the younger set will be heightened by fabrics of a romantic character—failles, taffetas, satins and bengalines. All are used to originate fashions for after-five. -Drawing-room fabrics in subtle Victorian colors feature the pared-down silhouet with gently

A Good Idea Cornered in

“By ELIZABETH HILLYER. YOU USED to feel cornered when you had to put furniture in a corner—but now the corners of the room are almost its favorite spots. This new special finterest in corner arrangement is certainly a big help in the small bedroom —where a center of the floor stand for twd beds is impossible - or’ steals entirely too much room, An arrangement

the glovers are plugging: the wardrobe idea. You need more than one type of glove’ to Keep your fingers in the fashion pie, they claim. And they have a point there . , . particularly in a season in which dressy clothes
are more important than usual. In days like those during the war, when busy women spent their waking hours in suits--no time to change—one type of glove might have been sufficient. Now with more time and pret- | tier clothes to tempt, it does take more varied accessories, including gloves, to match up with more elaborate wardrobes. The estimate on a minimum glove wardrobe varies from three to seven types of hand coverings. As a matter of fact, it is possible to get along with fewer than the higher figure, because some of the categories overlap. The tiered slipon from Block's, shown above, can be worn with simple afternoon costumes as well as with town suits. The Crescendoe gauntlet from Ayres’ also is a double-duty style. Another factor, aside from costume suitability, enters the picture, too. Bracelet length sleeves in many daytime gostumes may up the number of glove types required. To go with the shorter sleeve, a longer-than-usual daytime glove may be desired. Most of the suggested glove wardrobes stick to a Jour-typs avers average, however. For before

glove has its inning. It 'may be a short-short or a four-button length and the styles range from string-knit to fabric ‘to pigskin, chamois and capeskin. It Ys here that the hangsewm models are likely to appear. After the noon hour the sturdier vies retire
“In favor of Hiely detailed models. "The glove:
length is likely to .increase and the materials are more, formal. While the short-short and four-buttoner may still be around, the six .to eight-button glove comes upon the scene. This one is good with tight cuffs or three-quarter sleeves. Materials are fabric, glace or doeskin. The third type goes with all those clothes designed for after-five wear-—-the ones that aren't quite evening duds but are far too dressy to be called afternoon styles. Here you'll find the classic six and eight-button lengths and &lso a bright array of novelty styles . . , metallie cuffed glace, for example. And if it's a superduper after-five outfit for which the gloves are being chosen, they may even turn out to be net

The really long glove, up to 16-button length, emerges for evening and is usually of doeskin orsglace, although net gloves and mitts, long or short-and sometimes glitter sprinkled, fit into the glove wardrobe here. And the short-short glove is on. deck, particularly for young wearers. As to color, almost anything goes. This year, to go with the deeper tones of Victorian-inspired fashions, there's a wholé range of darker gloves. They're worn by night as well as by day. One glove firm suggests adding drama to evening
