CLEVELAND, Oct. 8—There has not been enough violencé in the World Séries to frighten a humming bird. The Indians won - an emphatic 4-1. victory yesterday. It should have been 4-0. Nevertheless it was overwhelming. The longest hit was a twobagger. There were three of such. As a matter . of fact, nobody on either side has yet hit for more than two bases. The Braves looked feeble in’ losing this second game and bringing the series to a 1- 1 deadlock. They complained they missed Jeff Heath. They did, too.

a = - . » . CLEVELAND won behind a right hander yesterday, Bob Lemon, who, after an uncertain start, finished in sturdy style. He had some troubled moments. The first came in the first. With one down Alvin Dark, the Braves freshman shortstop, was safe when Joe Gordon fumbled his ground hit, Gordon recovered quickly and threw to first. It was a close play.

Williams Umpire Bill Stewart, National Leaguer, may have been right in

calling the Bostonian safe. You can't tell about these things

' from the press box. You know how umpires make their decisions. By gestures, and in this case Stewart's gesture was made before the play was completed. This is not a case where you second guess the umpire. You ¢an see the gestures clearly from the press box. And Stewart did call this play before it was over. - . . . .
