qbut I can’t. He isn’t going steady with anyone, but he doesn’t come
Ask Mrs. Manners—
‘Should | Get Matried To Please My Folks?’
C—O Ss. “SHOULD 1 SACRIFICE my happiness and marry to
please my parents? I'm 20 and very much in love with a man who is 25. He says he loves me. I have just graduated from business school and have a good job. He doesn’t have a good job now, but he will some day. My parents disapprove of this boy very much. There is a boy 1 went to school with who is in love with me. My parents want me to marry him because he has a good job and his family has money. 8. A. M, City. Parents usually size up boys pretty well as far as character Js concerned, but I know they just can’t tell you whom to love. I have a feeling they may object to this boy for reasons other than his job, so I'd be fair about judging him. Can’t you swing along single for awhile, adding a few other dates? Td think completion of business school and a good job, with fun besides, would be satisfying until the boy you like proves he can be successful and win approval of your parents.
Wants Homemaking Hints
I RECENTLY acquired a little bachelor apartment (for I'm a liftle bachelor) and have had fun furnishing it. But, it is getting to the point where I am spending more than I can afford. Could you tell me how to find some shortcuts that would make this en-
joyable project more economical? LIL’ HOMEMAKER.
Indianapolis stores display scrapbooks and supply ideas on decorating, and libraries and book stores have hundreds of books on the subject. Among books suggested are: Dorothy Draper's “Decorating Is Fun”; Helen Koues’ “How To Be Your Decorator”; Terhune’s “Decorating for You”; Wright's “House and Gardens, Complete Guide to Interior Decoration.” One idea is suggested. Place two small chests or commodes on adjacent walls with a plywood top connecting them to form a knee-hole desk. Shelves for books, radio and toiletries may be placed above the desk. Brass lamp bases and other brass accessories complement a man’s apartment. Flat paint is suggested for walls. When you've mastered pie crust you might enroll in decorating classes in high schools and colleges.
To J. B., seeking address—Will you call me or send your name and address? MRS. MANNERS.
‘My Idol Won't Give Me a Tumble’
I'M 17 and much in love with a boy who doesn’t notice me. I've gone with a few of ‘my classmates and have tried to get over him,
around any more. It hurts me very much because I want him dly. LONESOME N.V.P. You probably haven't done one single thing in the way of improvement since this boy walked out. You may lose more boys if you don’t. I expect you look at him too longingly. Stop that right now and don’t tell your girl friends you still like him, You girls work in reverse. You try to make boys like you despite your faults and imperfections—you should work on your failings.
Lover of Lawrence Welk's Music
I'M A LOVER of Lawrence Welk’s music, I hear his records over the radio but haven't been ‘able to. purchase them. Could you help the find “Baby Me,” “Rustic Dance” and “Josephine”?
A READER. Will yeu send your name and address?
Reader Says U. S. Children Lucky
I'D LIKE to spend time in evenings and on Sundays putting over to American children how lucky they are to be Americans. I was engaged in youth work in Europe with the U. 8. Army. Is September National Youth montn? NE WHO WANTS TO HELP. Check Protestant hn programs with The Church ‘'Federation’s Department of Religious Education (RIL 9506) and Catholic programs by calling RI. 2579. Kirshbaum Community Center sponsors group work activities of that type and Jewish Social Services sponsor individual activities. Many organizations, patriotic, etc, have projects of the type you want. September is National Youth month.
Two More Letters to ‘Intelligent’
first read your careless; interpretation of we were plumb mad. Then we were amused, and finally felt sorry for you because you don't realize that if it weren't for a woman you wouldn't be here. Evidently you're disappointed in love or you've never been in love or you're afraid to fall in love and accept responsibilities. TWO MARRIED MEN, City. As “Intelligent” I'd think you'd see that men, as well as women, fit your description of knuckleheads. You've placed yourself on such a high pedestal no human being could compare with you. You might find a girl to fill your qualifications if you'd stop thinking of yourself as such a fine character. There are lots of decent girls if’ you'll look. Maybe you're so conceited girls have done you dirty to open your eyes. It's a shame your father didn’t have your opinion. D. 8., South Side. Our friend probably has a new “knucklehead” by now. I wish he'd write us don’t you?
