Belar, I. Do We Glamorize the

By ERNEST E. BLAU F YOU'RE EVER in a movie, and you notice a dim figure hopping in and out of seats and finally landing kerplunk alongside of you--that's a wolf. And if you're sensible, that's your cue to change your seat. If he moves in on you again, get an usher, and e usher shrugs it off, go and phone for a cop. That's the procedure recommended by the police de partment. The cops are pretty well fed up with the wolf plague — which isn’t breeding the kind of citizens cops like, As an authority on social relations says: “If men go - hunting on Main St. and get . away with it, it's not long before some go hunting in the lonely streets at the edge of town": ° You're just as

Give him the brush-off —because a wolf is just an emotional fuzzywuzzy, who's been glamorized into a street corner Robin Hood. A leading psychiatrist puts it this way: “Wolfism is overcompensation. By whistling

at girls this type of man is

only trying to mask his uncertainty about how much of a man he is.” These lame-brains will be with. us all the time, of course. A new crop is always coming up. They used to be called “mashers,” which held them in check, because “masher” wasn’t a glamorous

name. Then they became “sheiks.” And now it's the “wolf” fad.

Call them “jerks,” which they are, and they'll quit. You wouldn't boast about having a “jerk” whistle at you, would you?

. “ : J IT'S LIKELY that the most “wishful-making” costumes in the show were the late-day and evening things done in rich fabrics and beautiful colors. The fabric of one of the gowns pictured is of museum-collec-tion quality. The ivory-toned satin damask makes a strapless ball gown (extreme left) with its bouffant skirt spreading out from cartridge tucks around the hipline. Silk taffeta in emerald green was used by Hattie Carnegie for the frock (lower left) with its puffed peplum. Jeweled butter fly pins accent one shoulder and the waistline. Muted pink with a beige cast is the color for the sweepingskirted lace frock (right) which + has matching lace gloves.
