yeSterday to down the Red Sox in a wild 17 to 10 game Chicago” The defeat cut ostons’ lead to a game-and-a-
half. Incredible Rally The White-Sox registered the upset with an incredible 10-run rally in the seventh inning. As Chicago teed off on pitchers Dave Ferriss and Earl Caldwell for six hits and three walks, it was hard to tell which team was battling for the flag and which was hopelessly buried in the) cellar. Taft Wright was the star, driving in five of the runs in the rally—four of them on a grandslam homer off Caldwell. Al Gettel, starting Chicago pitcher, emerged with the win while Boston starter Jack Kramer, who failed to survive a four-run third inning, was’ the. loser, The Yanks were idle yesterday, along with third-place Cleveland. Ferris Fain's double to score Eddie Joost in the 12th inning gave the Philadelphia A's an 8 to 7 win over the Browns in St. Louis, ‘Brownie Gerry Priddy Yd sent the game into overtime with a ninth-inning homer, but Fain's double gave Pitcher Dick Fowler his 15th win of the year and gave the Athletics their 17th win in 22 games against St. Louis this year. Senaors Still Losing
The Tigers extended Washington’s losing streak to 15 games by a 4 to 2 score at Detroit. Rookie Lou XKretlow hurled a nine-hitter to get the win, while Milo Candini was charged with the defeat. Boston's Braves retained their five-game_margin in the National League by downing Chicago, 5 to 2, at Boston. Southpaw Warren Spahn was tagged for nine hits but scored his 14th win. Four Cub errors played a big part in the Braves’ scoring. The Pirates-tightened their hold on second place with an 8 to 3 victory over the Giants in New York behind the seven-hit pitching of Ernie Bonham, Whitey
