Sales of Series E bonds in the same period totaled $2.9 billion, an increase of about one per cent over sales .in the same . 1947 period. Exceed Redemptions In August, E bond sales tofaled $334 million and redemptions were $321 million. Bond sales to individuals. are said by the Treasury to be non inflationary--if it did not get the money from individuals it would have to sell more bonds to banks. Arsl bonds held by banks work through a complicated process to increase the money supply. In the past, the Treasury has used surpluses from sale of the “peoples’ bonds” to retire those held by banks. But the period of government surpluses ended with the income tax reduction and Treasury officlals say there is no immediate
