The purpose of a septic tank is {to receive the sewage from a {home and allow most of the solids to decompose. After this the liquid inside the tank flows out to a distribution field where it is absorbed by the earth. The first point we want to make is that not all the solids in the tank are going to decompose and some are even going to remain inside the tank. In time this matter, or sludge as it is called, is going to have to be removed or else the tank will cease to function. This is a messy job and should be left to those with the proper equipment and sknow-how to do it with a 1minimum of fuss and bother. Another point we might make is that the more solids that flow into the tank the quicker will be this accumulation.
