Fleming was purchased from Cleveland by Indianapolis last]. winter. Retired Two Years On Cleveland's voluntary retired list in 1943 and 1944, Fleming’s best year with the American League club was in 1942 when he patted .202 and drove home 82 runs. The year before he. had been a sensation with Nashville when he powdered Southern Association pitching for 414. Though Fleming hit only .242 with Cleveland in 1947, Indianapolis Manager Al Lopez claims the big fellow still is a big-league ball player despite his 33 years. “As Fleming goes, so go the Indians” is the way Lopez measured Les’ value to the Hoosier Redskins.
