New Selling Plan Launched
This Region Chosen for Firm's Test
Dynamic Program of
Merchandising Set
Opening of the new Chambers Merchandise Center inaugurates an entirely new selling plan, a different approach to selling] heavy appliances. The plan puts into effect many ideas which pro-| gressive companies throughout! the nation have been talking about but have hesitated to try, Chambers men declare,
Chambers’ new center is not only one of the most beautiful retail appliance stores in the Midwest; it has ‘been carefully planned to include every angle of this dynamic new method of approach to retail selling. . “ » ” IT IS TO BE a proving ground of ideas—many of them already tested—not just for Chambers’ own dealers over the U.8.A., but { r others as well.
The Chambers Products, Ine. chose Indighapolis for this test operation partly because it was close to the factory in Shelbys ville, and partly because Hoosier buyers are sknown for their search for quality and economy when they purchase and any tests would have to be good to be effective in this area. . This ‘merchandising Plan of To-4 morrow is meeting & challenge at} a time when buyers are becoming when it is no longer a matter of: “How soon can you deliver it?” but one of: “do you want one product or another?” or “Do youl want to buy at all?” Appliance dealers - and other) heavy commodity dealers every:| where are expectéd to watch with interest the progress Chambers makes with their new program. » ” »_ BASICALLY, it is a highly co-
pordinated program of intensive) a
sales-promotion coupled with thorough follow-through. Many, novel plans will be employed to acquaint the public with Chambers products. 3 There will be a great deal of “showmanship” used. Chambers believes that people want to be entertained. They like gimmicks, tontests. Sport fans will be given radio broadcasts of their favorite events. Yes—merchandising can be fun, says W. C. Williams, general manager of Chambers Prod-
7dets, Inc. People want to enjoy your, efforts. ~ wy To illustrate the extent to
avhich Chambers plans to go in their selling effort, the entire Chambers sales personnel is trained ‘hot only in proper sales methods but in the actual rudiments of cooking. They are cooking experts, qualified to help a woman with her cooking problems. Chambers Home Service Department is one of the largest anywhere. . s . ONE OF THE IMPORTANT features of the Chambers program is the careful follow-up of every sale. When a customer purchases a Chambers range or one ‘of the BServel products, she] is shown how to use it in her own’ home. She is taught how to get the utmost satisfaction from her purchase. In this way, each user becomes one of Chambers most enthusiastic “salesmen.” Aggressive merchandisers everywhere are well acquainted with the value of “third party selling.” When & prospect asks a Chambers user about her range she gets a real selling talk.
13 Radio Shows To Be Staged
W. C. Williams, general manager of Chamberss<Products, Ine. announces that 13 radio shows will be staged right from the showroom floor of the Merchandise Center during opening days Thursday and Friday. Featured, will be the Chuckles Chapman show at 10:30 a. m. both days. More than 30 expen$ive prizes will be given away at these shows. The grand prize of the opening will be a deluxe Chambers Range, Williams said. This will climax a vast extravaganza of radio shows, contests and novelty stunts. The opening celebration promises to be one of the most enter-
dn
public.

The Home Service Department, with a staff consisting of a di-
| rector, Mrs. Athalia Brill; an assistant director, Mrs. Lois Clark, {and home service advisers—Miss { {Phyllis Burck, Mrs. Vera Stubbs i land Mrs.
Lucille Reed—has a maniféld purpose; to instruct every purchaser in the use and care of the Chambers range, to demonstrate in every way sible the outstanding features ‘of
i ithis most remarkable cooking
appliance, and to assist every
¥ luser with her own special cookling ideas.
The primary purpose of this department is to elaborate on the many features of the Chambers range by demonstrating it whenever and wherever possible. This department is constantly building good will for the range and assisting sales and service departments in building a long list of satisfied customers. department also makes tested recipes and menus available to those who wish them. ” » » AT THE TIME A SALE of a Chambers range is completed or shortly thereafter, when it is installed, arrangements are made for one of the service department staff to call on the new customer, and show her just how to use the Chambers range, and How to care for it with the least effort. The service gdviser is glad to demonstrate’ and test favorite recipes for each customer. And she is happy to go into detail on atly problem the user may have —from the pans used, the ingrédients, to the actual cooking or baking of the food. If the adviser finds there is any mechanical adjustments necessary on the range, she calls the mechanical service department which dn turn makes the adjustments. A home cooking demonstration can be arranged for a group of friends, if desired. The demon{strator. prepares the food in ad{vance of the demonstration for as many people as are expected to be present. When she goes into the home, usually the group gathers around the Chambers range and watches while she! {places the food in the Thermowell or in the oven, depending on what she has planned to cook. s - » USUALLY ONE OF THESE features is demonstrated because they are what makes cooking the Chanibers way “different.” Then, while the food is cooking (with the gas turned off) she has an opportunity to discuss the many things about Chambers Ranges. that are outstanding. Perhaps she will broil something
some sandwiches on the bulit-in griddle. You may be sure she has an enthusiastic audience that listens and watches attentively. When she has completed her demonstration, the food “cooked the Chambers Way” Is served to the gucsts so that they may taste the difference and know how much better the flavor when no vitamins or minerals are lost. The Home Service Department also holds a Cooking School iwhenever advisable in small towns in the surrounding area, or in suburban theater or school.
