Teen Problems— Stop Bullying Small Fry
By JEAN JUST BECAUSE you're two years older than Junior you don’t have to bully him. No, Joe, it’s not necessary to prove your superiority by get-tough tactics. Big Brothers—and sometimes gisters—who wouldn't dream of slapping or scolding toddlers will go to town on kids just a bit younger than they. » tJ » SEVENTEEN can be mighty mean to 15, 15 to 13 and so on. If you have a tendency that way, better look into it. Bullying is .a symptom of self-doubt, of lack of confidence. The older guy is so unsure of his capabilities and powers that he must continually put them to a test. He may be afraid of outside competition. Or jealous of young brother's growing strength and ability. i ” - » IF you habitually and needlessly needle Junior or boss him around with threats of a licking or—worse still—of tattling to Pop, don’t think you can get away with it. Maybe the kid will outstrip you in” time and give you the beating of your life. Meanwhile, other people are judging you,

Men and Women—
By ERNEST E. BLAU N MRS. SNIPNOSE next door cuts her roses 80 you can't have any; or makes her half-blind, 80-year-old father wash the dishes every night—you can put her down as a typical female meanie. And boy, can some girls turn on the spite after they pass out of the charm age! A lot of women develop ingrown dispositions in middle age, when they realize they can't get .the results they used to from face creams, lipstick and girdles. When a woman has a futile, frustrated look while trying on a new dress or hat watch out! She knows life is beginning to pass her by— and she may start to act as ornery toward innocent people .as a bumblebee with itch. Her meanness, of course, is really a symptom of insecurity. It gives her a Httle, last feeling of power. " ” . A MAN CAN act pretty mean, too, but he usually hasn’t got the woman's physiological reason for it; unless it's from dyspepsia. That fellow.in Illinois who was arrested recently for directing a flock of C., O. D. packages, coupons, an ambu-~ lance, the fire department and an undertaker to another man's house~he wasn't mean-—he had jerk-itis; a common male complaint. Yet one of the meanest persons ever to break into the news was a man, not a woman. This farmer was . hauled into court for. trying to get his 71-year-old mother out of his home. He set all kinds of pitfalls and booby traps for her on his property. He hung an empty milk can on a tree beside her window and tied a bull there to keep her awake all night butting the can. He kept digging
