Can Women Handle Big Jobs?
By ERNEST E. BLAU GIRLS ARE wonderful creatures, all right—but you ‘ can’t expect them to he tops in everything, They know an awful lot about people, motives, kids, clothes, shopping, and Mary Zilch’s affair with that young plumber down the street. They can read a man like a book and a women like & billboard. But when it comes to running a business, a city or a country from a big time, push button swivel chair--well, the male really has an edge on them there. And you may as well throw away the words, “Madam President,” because so few women have the impersonal judgment needed to fill that job. It's a sad but psychological fact that a woman finds it hard to make a clean-cut executive decision—she likes to roll a decision around on her tongue and taste it awhile, like a professional tea ‘taster —then spit it out and uy again. . A MAN likes ~ make big decisions (even though wrong). He sits there like Jupiter ‘on Olympus, up to his ears in big, abstract, impersonal stuff, like market trends, Sa loadings and the national debt. But the woman's interests stay mostly right on the spot where she's got her feet
planted. Her attention keeps turning inward. Her reactions to’ everything are immensely personal—and they tend to

color her judgment all the e.
To separate the average woman from her personal feelings when she makes a decision, you'd have to separate her from her head-—and that wouldn't gain you much because a headless woman certainly wouldn't make a good adminstrator, either. It's too bad women are this way. Men sure need help with some of their big ‘problems today.
