Youkey Says Raise Would Help Cities

An official of the Indiana Municipal League today said he’ had a way for Hoosier cities and towns to get out of their financial doldrums, Executive Secretary W. Vincent Youkey proposed that the state’ 8s! gross income tax, now 1 per cent, be raised to 2 per cent. } Mr. Youkey said the tax boost would provide a $200,000,000 fund that would relieve pressure on

all cities and towns. He said it would provide enough money so that the property tax could be eliminated on all except income-| producing property, such as apartments and business bulld-| ings. The proposal was made in al bulletin sent to 535 officials of Indiana cities and towns.
