WHITE Written for Seripps-Heward Newspapers WASHINGTON, July 23— When Midshipman Wesley Anthony Brown is graduated from the United States Naval Academy next year, he will be the first Negro to make the grade. Midshipman Brown was admitted to Annapolis in June, 1945, on the appointment of Rep. Adam C. Powell (D., N. Y.). Because he has completed three of the four years of the course, with good marks in deportment and studies, his graduation in 1949 is taken for granted. Other Negroes admitted to An napolis have not been as success.
