Both men assaulted her, Mrs. Morris told Sheriff Clayton Gillebeau and state police, then told her to walk to Krotz Springs, several miles away. She did, and notified law enforcement authorities. Mr. Couvillion’s body, shot twice, stabbed several times, and its skull smashed, was found in the automobile. Pieces of a broken pistol were found in the car. A posse, aided by bloodhounds, was formed immediately on the woman's report and began to round up all possible suspects.
