about a year and a half ago when ‘he sat in one of the numerous “three judge” cases that brought {him here. Judge Evans last Friday relin|quished his post as senior judge of the three-state circuit compris{ing Indiana, Illinois and Wiscon{sin after two long absences from {the bench because of poor health. He retired to his farm in Spring {Green where he planned to indulge in agriculture.
Outstanding Judge
Judge Robert C. Baltzell of the | Federal Court in Indianapolis de‘scribed Judge Evans as a close, | personal friend throughout the 23 | years they were acquainted. Judge | Baltzell said that Judge Evans | was one of the outstanding judges of the country and several times was considered for a Supreme Court appointment. Judge Evans observed his 32d | year as the circuit's senior judge | last May after practicing law at nearby Baraboo for 16 years. He was graduated from Wisconsin University. A native of New, | Salem, he was formerly conductor of several musical shows on the road and in New York City. He worked under the stage name of Paul Parnell and at one time joined with Will Callahan, New | York City, to write songs. | He was a member of Broad Ripple Christian Church, Broad| Ripple Masonic Lodge and Royal Arch Masons. Surviving are his wife, Edythe Lee; a daughter, Miss Sharon Gaye Pratt; a brother, Carl W. Pratt, all of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Roland Gegoux, Pontiac,, Mich, and a nephew.
George W. Baird
Services for George W. Baird, 819 Shelby St., a refrigerator engineer for Meyer Packing Co. for 20 years, will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow in Stirling Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lafayette. ee Mr. Baird, who was 87, died Tuesday in his home. He was a member of the Marion Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and a past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 393. Survivors are his wife, May; two sons, Charles and Clyde, both of Indianapolis, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
