Subway Fare Out
NEW YORK, July 1 (UP)— New York City’s 5 cent subway fare passed away today.
After 44 years of political bickering, the city boosted the- fare to 10 cents on its 239 miles of subway and elevated lines. At the same time, fares on the cityowned surface lines were’ upped to 7 cents. EVANSVILLE, Ind. (UP)— When Taylor Patrick Jr., 20, saw an automobile bearing down on him as he walked along a highway, he tossed his three-weeks-old son into a nearby field. The car struck Mr. Taylor and he was taken to a hospital with head and shoulder cuts. The baby escaped with a few scratches.

Venezuela's President To Begin 11-Day Visit
WASHINGTON, July 1 (UP)
Venezuela arrives here today tof begin an 11-day official visit in| the United States. President and Mrs. Truman, cabinet officers and other highranking government officials will be on hand to meet him and his party at National Airport about p. m. (Indianapolis Time) aboard Mr. Truman's private plane, the “Independence.” Mr. Gallegos is the first Venezuelan president to visit the
United States. A formal White House dinner will be given in his honor tonight. Mr. Truman and Mr. Gallegos leave by train Sunday for Bolivar, Mo., where a bronze statute
of Simon Bolivar, Latin-Ameri-can hero, will be unveiled the following day.
