GUMDROP COOKIES 1 ¢. sifted enriched flour 1% tsp. baking powder 1% tsp. soda 1 tsp. salt 1 ¢. shortening 1 ¢. granulated sugar 3 ¢. brown sugar

Add the foes , egg, water and v 1. Beat until smooth for about two minutes. Fold in the rolled oats and gumdrops. Shape by hand and roll in coconut, if desired. Bake on a greased baking sheet in a moderate oven (350 degrees F.) for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes three and dozen cookies. ¢

Let's forget the usual so-called musts and try to set ou: & bit of surprise for the faniished family after a drive and a hike, These foods are good, how. ver, in January, June OR July. 8 8» s VEAL LOAF \ Three pounds of shoulder veal, one pound of salt pork, one smali| onion, one small green pepper, one small can of mushroom pieces, two slightly beaten eggs, three tablespoons of cream, onehalf cup of catsup, one cup of cracker crumbs, three tablespoons of melted butter, one tablespoon of salt and a dash of cayenne. Grind the meat, onion, green pepper and mushrooms together. Mix with the other ingredients into an oblong loaf. Bake slowly for about two hours, basting often. Serve with mustard pickles and radishes. " . .

Two cups of uncooked elbow macaroni; one No. 2 can of green peas, drained; one-half pound of diced cheddar cheese; one-half cup of diced stuffed olives; onehalf cup of chopped green pepper, three tablespoons of chopped parsley, three diced hard-boiled eggs and a bit of scraped onion. Cook the macaroni, drain and cool; mix all the ingredients with one-half mayonnaise and one-half boiled salad dressing. Chill salad for two hours before using. Add cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla and beat again. Add alternately the sour cream, in which the soda is dissolved, and two cups of sifted flour. Beat well. Use a square cake pan and line the bottom with oil paper. Grease the bottom of pan, then the top of the oil paper. Do not grease the sides of the pan. Bake for 35 minutes in a‘ 350 degree F. oven. Turn out on a wire cake rack and when cool, ice with
