By JEAN YOU'VE invited the crowd for a June dance? Well, here are a few hints that might help. The host or hostess must greet each and every guest at the door. Naturally Mom and Pop will be in the offing, but hospitality is your job, pal. . ” ” IT'S smart for a boy partygiver to appoint his date as “hostess of honor.” She'll help him greet incoming guests, 8he’'ll show the gals to the powder room and will lure shy guys into dancing and games.
Similarly, a hostess may choose a host of honor. And if the dance is a whopping big one, ushers are a good idea. First aid to wallfiowers, you: know! 8o choose suave but steady operators who can be relied upon, Ushers and all boy

with the hostess and with the host's mother. ” n » LARGE or small, your party must be planned ahead. Plenty of platters for the record player or a list of dance broadcasts on the radio, Appropriate props if you're going to play games. And refreshments! Plain food or fancy, but lots of it!

persons of the same age. fo whl per HAPPIER for a e, rhaps, professor. But hadn't you heard that women are outliving men? So a wife has a chance of living part of her life as a widow even if she marries a man her own age. Add “at least six or eight years” on to that and you're going to increase the number of widows in the United States. And increase the number of viidows, lonely and perhaps financially dependent, and you're going to greatly increase the problem of their grown children. One more thing, professor. Just whose happiness is going to be increased in the marriage where the wife is considerably younger than the husband? Not the wife's, surely. Husbands grow old and settled fast enough without having any head start. Ask any wife, professor.

city, I met some women who: are members of the South Hills Civic Club. They told me that they have a bridge club. : _1 asked one the name of the club, and she replied, “We don't have a name.” 80 today’s hand is from the bridge club without a name. Mrs. Elizabeth Kincheloe, a member, wanted to know how it should be bid. . I knew this was dynamite—the - lady had red hair. I finally said, “With some partners I would n the South hand with one club, while with others I might bid a heart. With you, I might even bid a spade, because if you were my partner and had all the spades, you would never let me play the hand.” . » » IN MY opinion South’s best opening bid is one club, follow"ing which West will bid a spade. Mrs. Kincheloe thought that North then should bid one no trump, but I consider two spades a stronger and better bid. Over two spades South will bid three hearts, a reverse bid showing a powerful hand. North then should bid four clubs. It is not necessary to jump to game. Now South can show control in diamonds with a four diamond bid. At this point North might risk a six heart bid, but six clubs is sounder,
