88 of 92 Counties Represented in Results

By ROBERT BLOEM.. Copyright, 1048, by The Indianapolis Times 5

No Republican candidate for governor has enough |delegate votes to win the nomination for governor on the -first-ballot -of the GOP state convention June 11. That was indicated today by The Times Straw Vote which polled each one of the 1837 elected ¢onvention dele|gates. It requires at least a majority of the delegates present to nominate and rules may be adopted to require an absolute minimum of 919 delegates. “1 On the basis of -Straw Vote returns -from- half of the |delegates, the first convention ballot will read like this: Sen.. William E. Jenner, 630 votes. Hobart Creighton of Warsaw, 540 votes. A. V. Burch, Auditor of State, 416 votes. Walter Helmke of Ft. Wayne, 252 votes. A total of 936 out of the 1837 delegates returned their Straw ‘Vote ballots to The Times. Of these, 919 or almost exactly half the total number of delegates expressed a pers sonal preference as of the day they voted on the gubernatorial nomination. 88 of 92 Counties Included The returns were from at least 88 of the state's 92 counties. A breakdown by districts showed that every sec--{tion of the state was represented in approximately the -{same. proportion in the returns.
