Timbs, a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Southern California, got the order for the car from Howard Keck, West Coast oil magnate. He began work on it only last October. Consulted Moore Mr; Keck liked the performance of the Moore cars last year, naturally, and asked Timbs to build something along the same lines with any refinements he could think of. Timbs, incidentally, did some consulting with Lou Moore in the building of these two win“pers 1ast year. The Keck car is powered by a four cylinder Offenhauser of the same type -as--are in -the -Moore-cars.-- It is a front drive with individual wheel suspension. Its lines resemble a cross between the Moore cars and the Mercedes.

Timbs, by virtue of his work on the Moore cars and the creation of the Keck Special has become one of the nation’s prominent race car designers. His desire, he says, to build fancy looking cars began back in high school when he made a speedster out of
