Why Not Try This? Family Scrapbook

Nature Treasure Hunt

Now that summer is just laround the corner, many parents will begin to think about ways to keep the children busy and interested out-of-doors. Nature treasure hunts may be one answer. Even in families where no one knows for sure the difference between a beech and a birch or between a sparrow and a wren; the nature treasure hunt can be fun. If one lives near a bit of woods, home can be the base. If not, the hunt can be carried on when the family and friends are on a day's outing. A list is made of such items as the longest leaf, the whitest stone, the funniest-shaped piece of bark, a last year's bird

nest, a yellow flower. Many other!

things can be added, of course. When the children are ready, mother and dad or even one of

[the youngsters can announce | wha

t the first treasure is and send them off. A time limit of 10 or 15 minutes can be set. As they play, children may very well want to know names of some of the treasures and develop a real interest in natural history. But whether they do or not, the treasure hunt is fun. :
