‘Messiah’, to Be Big Record Event Devotion, Sensitive Understanding as Shown Under Baton of Sir Thomas Beecham
THE OUTSTARDING RECORD EVENT of 1948 is likely to be “Messiah”
- RCA Victor's release of Handel's 4% singers and players under the baton of Sir Thomas Beechar. This tremendous
masterpiece that must seem, at times, insurmountable As Sir Thomas says in an introductory talk which takes up Srst yecord side of the set,

The shift to the drama will be easier for Pinza than for the gen-| eral run of opera stars because he always has been noted for his acting ability as well as for his singing. He probably will sing a

it is in no sense a musical show.
= Identifies Man Found in River
State Police today identified the body of a man found floating in a White River bayou near Co-
bums. |jymbus, Ind. Apr, 13.
Fingerprints taken here and gent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D. C, proved the man to be Fred Franklin Williams, 63, Clearfield, Pa. Meanwhile, investigators prac-
by tically have discarded the theory
id foul play in Williams’ death. A WAVE bracelet found in his 'Ipossession was identified by an Indianapolis woman who said /her daughter lost it some time ago. . Police records show Williams to have been arrested and imprisoned in Arizona, Oregon and Illinois at various times from 1933 to 1946. : There were no marks of violence on the body. The man is believed to have dropped dead or fallen from a train into the river.

Has Long Beard NEW YORK, Apr. 20 (UP)— Tin Pan Alley had a new hit tune tickling its eardrums today a new character to add to its unmatched gallery of the strange and wonderful, The Tune is “Nature Boy” unless all the wisest of the alley’s prophets: are. wrong it will be crowding everything on the hit parade in perhaps a month. The character is the writercomposer, Eden Ahbez becoming known from coast to coast simply as “the Yogi.” ’ Tin Pan Alley has seen everything, songwriters in chaps and ten gallon stetsons, song writers in morning coats and silk hats, song writers in battered windbreakers and corduroy trousers.
Has Long Hair
But Eden Ahbez is the first legitimate songwriter ever to make his initial entrance barefoot wearing nothing but an old drab, grey smock, a long biblical beard, long hair and a benign expression. Nat Cole of the King Cole Trio was told that the apparition was waiting for him while playing a Hollywood date and said to tell him to leave his manurc and begone. Bandleaders| get lots of manuscripts that way.|® But Mr. Cole's casual look turned into a whistle of wonder, In due course Mr. Ahbez showed up again, this time shuffling along in sandals.

letters because no human being rates capitals, He also wanted a peculiar sum of money as an ad-
numerology. “Nature Boy” is his first published song. It is part of a suite in which six popular and classical form tunes are linked. The lyric (the greatest thing in the world is to love and be loved) represents his philosophy.

‘Independent Careers’
Cause of Action
NEW YORK, Apr. 20 (UP)— Kathleen Winsor, of “Forever Amber,” announced the end of
Shaw today. Miss Winsor’s attorneys said the cquple had separated finally and that she would seek a divorce. The reason was.given as “a disparity of intsrests occasioned by their independent careers.” The stormy Shaw-Winsor romance raged on both coasts. Rerecently they agreed on a trial separation but decided, her attorney said, “that their cannot be continued successfully" although they “remain on the best of terms.” The attorney, Arnold KXrakower, said he understood it was Mr, Shaw's fifth or sixth marHage.
