Main Postoffice Installs Mailomat
The city's first Mailomat, a coin-operated, self-service mailing machine, was installed in the main post office this morning. The new service was officially inaugurated by Postmaster Adolph Seidensticker who sent the first letter to Postmaster General Jesse Donaldson in Washington. “The machine makes it possible for people to mail letters without stamps after the postoffice has closed,” Mr. Seidensticker said.
He pointed out that no-extra|-
fee is charged for postage and, since the letters will be cancelled and postmarked by the machine, earlier train and plane corrections can be made.
