Mrs. John Paul Ragsdale, 50 N. Bolton Ave. has been named. vice of the committee; Gerald C. Purdy, secretary and Preston Scott, treasurer,

Why Not Try This? By DR. ERNEST G. OSBORNE In China, most parents think it quite improper to praise their own children. They feel that it is immodest and unfitting. A good many American parents seem to have something of the same attitude. They are ready to scold [1634

wrong but feel that they should be expected to do the right things without comment or praise. There is little doubt that praise can be overdone. A child should not learn to expect words of commendation for every little thing he does. On the other hand, widely used praise is a very fine thing, for it encourages the child to try even harder to do the things he needs to learn to do. It makes him feel his parents are friendly and understanding, too. Why not carry on an experiment in your own family? For just a week watch the scolding— tone it down or drop it. Instead, look for things that you can conscientiously praise. They're to be found in every child if only we're on the lookout. At the end of the week, check and see whether the youngsters haven't responded well and whether you don't feel pretty good about the whole thing. It’s worth a try.
