general agent for the Insurance Co., in charge of life, health ant A in Indianapolis. nnsylvania Dutch

{ background enables him to i make sense to top-drawer business executives.. { And he knows well the language of the man at the factory bench. He's been in Indianapolis three years, but he was a rim-of-the-state Hoosier long before that. Bi When he lived in Chicago, where he had shifted : from selling electrical equipment to Aetna insurance, first as an agent, then a supervisor and finally assistant general agent, he and Mrs. Williams designed and built a home in the dunes near Gary. So he was breathing Hoosier air long before a moving van rumbled into Indianapolis with his furniture.

Swims Half-Hour a Day

HIS RUDDY FACE, fast-flowing. picturesque language, snarp blue eyes and fortyish gray temples are all a part of his mobile features which light up with easy, sentence-punctuating smiles. He watches his waistline (insurance men are weight-conscious) and keeps in shape. It used to be handball until not so long ago a rubber-muscled youngster took him on one noon and ran him all over the court. Thereupon he ; promptly turned handball over to the youngsters. Ft Now he swims. Nothing fancy, but at least a half '} hour of it every day he can get to the Athletic Club pool. He admits to playing golf. but not seriously. And he has been known to sit in on a gentlemanly £ round of poker or sociable gin rummy. ¥ Back at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, i he met charming Ann Baer, who was attending the University of Pittsburgh. She was a Chi Omega and he a Kappa Sigma. But that’s not all of the Greek alphabet in the Williams family.

Active in Carnegie Campus

HE WAS a Theta Tau (honorary engineering) E and an Eta Kappa Nu (engineering) in addition t to being a member of the Dragons, honorary Senior society, a member of the Student Council, Athletic Council Yearbook Board and for one semester a member of the Inter-Fraternity Council. His most exciting campus job was as student manager of the football team in 1926 when Carnegie handed an unbeaten Notre Deam team the short end of a 19-to-0 score, He's a' bait-caster, likes to fish Lac du Flambeau (Lake of Flames) in Wisconsin for walleyes »nd bass. That, says he, is,about as far as a mid-forties athlete should go. When he was appointed general agent here in 1945 on the death of Paul W. Simpson, it was like dropping a pebble in a mill pond. He began to get around in ever-widening circles until he has touched the subirban outward shores in every direction, To do that you not only have to be industrious, but you have to have a true ring. a breath of the And Paul M.
