To further vncourage city pride the committee plans a clean-up parade of city equipment, fire apparatus, and garden club floats. The parade will be directed by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Members of the committee ask that every home and building be cleaned from attic to basement, and that every yard, alley and street be renovated. Adults will | be charged with the heavier tasks | but boys and girls are expected to | perform the lighter work.

Detectives were investigating today the fatal shooting ot a recently married couple in what is believed to be murder a=d suicide, John W. South, 62, furnace repairman, was found dead last night in his second-floor apartment, 2506 N. Alabama St., with a bullet wound in his head. Nearby, police found his wife of three months, Mrs. Bessie South, 46, unconscious with two bullet wounds in her head. She died in General Hospital shortly after arrival. A 32-caliber revolver was found on the floor between them. Detective Michael Smiley and Myron Partlow said Mr. South apparently shot his wife twice, | then killed himself. : Girls Hear Quarrel Five girls living in the downstairs apartment said they heard |= the couple quarreling and heard |= some shots and a thump on the floor. They called police about 9 p.m, The girls said they heard Mrs. South say earlier yesterday that she was planning to file suit for divorce. Discussion of these plans with her husband is believed to have precipitated the shooting. Mrs. South was an employee

Burglars Get $140 In East Side Cafe

Burglars entered Duke's Restaurant at 3225 E. 10th St. early this morning and- escaped with] $85 from the cash register and $55 from a desk drawer. An undetermined amount of cash and cigarets were taken from a cigaret machine. The theft was discovered by Russell Duke, 1024 Parker Ave. owner of the cafe, when he opened for business today.
