Resources Group Has Problem Filling Jobs
ns EARL RICHERT Howard Staff Correspondent WAL HINGTON, Mar. 26 — The agency planning industrial and civilian mobilization — the National Resources Board—has a man working on FL . _ executive orders 7 to be issued by the President in ° case of war. { Ithasare-: tired Standard ; Ofl vice presi- i dent studying the all - important oil problem, how to allocate 7 it and how to get more in case of war. Maj. Gen. Paul R. Hawley, former Veterans Administration medical chief, is working on how to mobilize the country’s doctors, nurses and hospitals. A major part of his job is to decide what can be done medically to prepare for possible atomic bomb or germ attacks.

trical engineer who has been associated with Western Electric Co., Inc., for more than 20 years, is studying the advisability of reloceting industries. _ These are only a few of the activities started by the Resources Board since it was set up three months ago.to advise the President concerning the co-ordination of military, industrial and civilfan mobilization. But what is under way now is only the start. The Resources Board needs more top-flight personnel, particularly businessmen with long experiencé in various industries such. as timber, steel, public . utilities, transportation, textiles, etc. Board Hopeful Resources Board Chairman Arthur’ W. Hill, on leave of “absence as president of the Greyhound Corp., has been having difficulty in getting businessmen to leave their jobs even temporatily to come here for mobilization planning. The board officials are more hopeful now. They believe the President's special message to Congress last week made American businessmen more aware of critical world affairs and that many now will be willing to come here.
“Mr. Hill and his aides have this
attitude: There was much criti- Advertisement cism by businessmen of govern- : ment methods in the past war. if You Need much of this was justified. Interest in Election
By PARKER LA MOORE Scripps-Howard Staff Writer ROME, Mar. 26—The speeches Palmiro Togliatti, Communist leader, is making in the Italian campaign and those of Henry Wallace in the United States are so similar that both might have been turned out by the same mimeograph machine.
Both paint the Communist drive for control of Italy as a fight for freedom. Mr. Togliatti asserts that “it is the right of the majority to govern” and that his followers in Italy and those in Czechslovakia and everywhere else are the “men who live by their labor.”
Echoing the same sentiment, Mr. Wallace says that it is “shameful when high officials in the United States imply that a freé democratic election in Italy is a threat to freedom.” Of course, no official of the United States government said anything like that, but when Mr. Wallace's speeches are reproduced by the Communist press in Italy it is made to appear that such reckless statements have been made. Mr, Wallace .and the Italian Communists also follow the same line in implying that the United States seeks economic gains in favoring the re-election of the present democratic government. The warning from Washington that Italians planning: to enter the United States as future immigrants would be excluded should they become members of the Communist Party seems to have more effect here than the threat to cut off American aid. * Also having some effect, it is said, are the thousands of letters being received by Italians here from relatives in the United States, urging them to vote against the Communist ticket.
