All are good buys for budget meals. In contrast to the lower-grade peas which are selling at relatively low prices, top grades and small-sieve sizes are in light supply and relatively high in price. The spring supply of nuts— walnuts, filberts and pecans— continues large. Sandwich-mak-ers will have their choice of several good buys in spreads.

By JEAN TABBERT A FROZEN dessert always is a treat after a heavy holiday dinner. The bunnies illustrated will highlight a children's party as well. Simple cookies and a ‘fizzy” drink made of fruit juice and gingerale are the only other refreshments needed for such a small fry entertainment. ‘ To make the bunnies, set the refrigerator control at the coldest point. Using a quart of vanilla ice cream, scoop out six rounded portions of ice cream. A large ice cream scoop or a large serving spoon will serve for the scooping task. Place this ice cream, which

Your finished garments are to be delivered Apr. 19 to a downtown location which will be announced in The Times. You are not likely to see everyone wearing an unpadded shoulder in coats and suits, even though some models with this extreme are scheduled for spring. Many female figures have great
ceal poor posture, so, no matter how thin the fashion arbiters make it, padding will, for the most part, remain a vital part of garment construction. Shoulder padding for spring is thinner and smaller in women’s garments of every type than it was last fall, when the tapered line first appeared. Here's the comparison. Last fall, the set-in pad for coats measured 6% to 6% inches in length, and it was about 11 inches thick. For spring, the setin pad is 5% inches long, and only seven-eighths to one inch thick. The same goes for set-in shoulder pads in suits. Last fall they measured 53% inches long, and seven-eighths of an inch
Eliminates Sharp Edge { For spring, the manufacturers have fitted suits with a set-in pad measuring 5% inches along the shoulder line, with a depth of only three-quarters of an inch. If your shoulder area needs a little more shaping than such a shoulder pad affords, you might employ the trick that some manufacturers have devised, and cut the back portion of the pad threequarters of an inch longer. Houses which turn out a highprice line put dropped shoulder pads in their set-in sleeves. The

Balmacaan or raglan type sleeves are not fitted either with set-in or dropped pads, as you know. The sloped shoulder pad, or the cupped shoulder pad is required, in order to preserve the smooth, natural shoulder line provided in this type of coat or suit styling. For spring, the sloped pads are approximately six inches in width, sloping down over the upper portion of the arm, and padding out the shoulder very gently. You can also use this kind of padding, as the manufacturers do, in coats and suits cut with yoke-shoulders.
Raglan Sleeve Often Uses Cupped Pad
The cupped pad is the most expensive of all to buy. It produces a rounded, close-fitting na-
tural line and must be joined to a front and back seam. Like the others, it is not very heavily padded, and its width is cropped to five inches. It is ‘most frequently fitted to the raglan sleeve. As far as your Times contest entry is concerned, you may buy or make the shoulder pads your coat or suit requires. If you make
suit the style of the garment you are fitting. And consult a sewing manual, or a sewing authority on the correct way to attach your padding. Some types need only a tacking along the shoulder seam line; some must be attached at all points, and some, as in the cupped pad just mentioned, must be attached to a seam, front and back. What you. do in this connection will be evident to anyone with an eye for fine tailoring. It's just one of the details that judges are

Bridge Lesson—
By WILLIAM E. McCKENNEY America’s Card Authority BEGINNERS at contract are usually concerned about what system of bidding they should study. But today contract is played so generally that bridge writers are forced to build systems around winning tactics of good players. Bidding is important, but it does no good to get into a game contract and not know how to play the cards. ‘ A surprising number of players would miss on today’s hand for failing to count their tricks. We can win the ace of spades and ruff a spade. If the hearts break 3-2, we will make four heart tricks. If the club finesse works we will have eight, and fhe ace of diamonds makes nine.
How are we to get the tenth? Shall we depend upon finding
them, be sure to style them to].

the king of diamonds ‘in the East hand, or should we try to set the long club? - = 2 FIRST we should try to set the long club, so we will let West hold the opening lead of the king of spades. When West continues with the queen of spades, we win that with the ace. We should not ruff the third spade yet. We first take one round of trumps, then lead the four of clubs and finesse the queen, lead the four of ‘hearts from dummy and win with the king.

Now there is only one trump out and it is high. Our next play should be the six of clubs to dummy’s ace, come back with the three of clubs and trump it with the three of hearts. Now it is time to ruff the small spade, then lead the five of clubs and trump it with the five of hearts. We go over to the ace of diamonds and lead the good club. Whether East trumps or not we are going to discard the four of diamonds from the South hand. Now there is no way to keep us from making another trick with the eight of hearts. This hand is proof of the importance of learning to count your tricks as well as to time your play.
Men and Women—
By ERNEST E. BLAU LOT OF MEN already are mice, of coyrse, long before they get married. They lack the well-known masculine traits of aggressiveness, toughness, fighting spirit. They're timid and gossipy. Similarly, a lot of women have been short-changed in the so-called feminine traits —gentleness, sympathy, home interest. Marriage does little "for these two groups except to make them worse, But it does affect the character of regular men. According to authorities, marriage has a definite tendency to make a man more. feminine, especially if he has children. After a really “masculine” guy has been married for years he tends to losé some of his’ rugged individuality and to reflect ‘some of the characteristic
