Wall Street ' Are Opening
. Women Are Entering ° Businesses There NEW YORK, Mar. 24 — Wall Street's future financiers may be women. For the first time, a few corporations in the austere and almost solidly masculine domain of high finance are inviting young women to train for executive careers as bankers and brokers. The door was opened to the ladies when Charles B. Harding, senior partner of Smith, Barney & Co., investment bankers, recently okayed the admission of 22-year-old Ellen Van Deusen to his company’s junior executive training course, Harding's move was made behe says: “A woman can do a job as well as a man.” In addition, he points out, Wall Street if needs young blood. Average age ! of present executives is 55 and companies are in real need of | young people to train to fill the top jobs in the future. The slim, blond banker-to-be—| = = 1 only girl in a training class of 16 ah and the first girl to be admitted " to the Junior Investment Bankers and Brokers Club—is aware of her responsibility as a pioneer. She is friendly but reserved and dresses in neatly tailored clothes, many of which she whips up herself.
