The rich molasses flavor of dark brown sugar is delicious over candied sweet potatoes and apple brown betty. It's also good in butterscotch pie, gingerbread and dark spice cookies, and will add zest to baked beans, baked winter squash and baked ham.

Light brown sugar mixes “tastefully” in caramel iecings, candies, cakes and cookies.

Smooth confectioners’ super-x sugar outdoes itself in uncooked icings and candies, fondants and fillings. i

Furniture Keys Color Schemes

By JEAN TABBERT MOST HOME DECORATORS think the correct way to furnish a home is to decide on the furniture first. That's one way, of course, but it's not necessary these days. One of the bigger fabric firms, Greeff Fabrics, Inc, has put out a line which derives its . color scheme from the furniture itself. Consequently, it's possible te select the fabrics desired before the furniture is bought. The company has designed fabrics for use in rooms furnished with English mahogany

In Ideas of Feminine Beauty, ‘Do Men and Women Differ?

Corsages for Easter Suits

Spring Flowers * AN EARLY Easter plus a plentiful supply of blossoms means a wider floral selection for the Easter corsage ... as well as more cut flowers and potted plants. William 8. Horn, president of the Allied Florists Association here, says there will be more flowers around for Easter than in any year since the war ... and that prices won't be any higher than last year—maybe lower in some cases. There should be, he says, more than enough orchids, gardenias, camellias, roses and carnations to meet the demand. As for corsage styles this year, there will be many types, depending upon the flowers used. The Washington Flower Shop, member of the Allied Florists, arranged the three pictured. At upper left is one of spring flowers .. . tulips, jonquils, pink hyacinth florets and a single blue iris . . . suitable for most any color suit or frock. arships to 50 children whose fathers were killed in action in the last war. The secretary of the organization, Albert H. Morehead, was unable to attend the meeting, so on the way back from Washington I talked to him by train telephone, and he started to discuss this bridge hand, which involves a safety play the average player and the expert miss, The whole question is how to play trump. os - » WEST cashes the first three heart tricks and then shifts to a diamond, which declarer wins with the king. Now almost invariably a declarer with this holding will lead a small spade to finesse dummy’s queen, and the contract is lost. Morehead pointed out that the correct safety play when holding 10 trumps is to lead the jack from the South hand, and if West fails to cover, take the finesse. If West covers with the king, declarer should go up with dummy’s ace. When East shows out, South returns to his hand and leads the nine of spades. Thus he picks up all .three trumps without losing a trick.

Know Your Stuff— About Shoe

Cleaners

Keeping new colored shoes looking their spruced-up best this spring will depend primarily upon your knowing your stuff as to which is the best type of cleaner to use for a particular leather. If you want to keep the color of kid, reptile or calf leather intact, use a dressing which will not darken the shade of the shoe. For that purpose, a neutral cream or liquid dressing is considered best. You have a choice of several cleaners specially devised for sprucing up colored suede, buckskin or shoes of nappy leather. One is a dry powder cleaner, which should be applied ‘for spot and other soil-removal only after shoes are well brushed. A powder cleaner requires a bit of intense brushing afterward to free nappy leather of all powdery dust. Another choice is a liquid suede dressing, which is designed for cleaning colored suede shoes and should be chosen in a shade lighter than the leather on which it is to be used.
