George of Georgia the U. 8. into war without the approval of Congress. The anti-Communist amend-| ment Was introduced by Sen. Joseph H. Ball (R.. Minn.), and has the support of several Reublican senators.

It would pledge this country to

take the lead in setting up a vetoless “supreme council” to halt aggression by armed force. Sen. George said the U, 8. should have the final gay on whether its soldiers are going to fight. Sen. Connally said the move, if approved, would simply give Russia a target for its propaganda barrages. The Ball amendment, which has been assailed by GOP leaders Robert A. Taft and Arthur H. ‘Vandenberg, is expected to come up for a vote in the Senate next week. -

Thorough Hearing

Promised Condon Rep. John McDowell (R. Pa.) said the government scientist accused of consorting with Russian spies will get a “prompt and thorough” hearing before the House © Un-American Activities Committee. Mr. McDowell is an influential committee member. He said that because of the important government post held by Dr. Edward U. Condon, it is best to bring about a showdown as soon as possible.

3 Killer Suspects Under Small Guard

SWAINSBORO, Ga., Mar. 6 (UP) — A Tennessee desperado and two women companions were rushed past a crowd of grim-faced men and lodged in jail here today on specific orders of Gov. M. E. Thompson. . Gov. Thompson ordered the.trio removed from Tattnall State Prison where they had been held for safe-keeping in order to prove there is no danger of mob violence in Georgia. The three were brought here under normal guard of four officers. Feeling against them was high. Face Murder Charge The trio was charged with the murder here Wednesday night of Garland Fields, an agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The suspects will be guarded only by jailer Tom Kersey and his wife, and one state patrolman, The agtion was Gow. Thompson's answer to pending - antilynching legislation in Congress. Georgia, the Governor said, had no lynch complex and can protect \\ her prisoners, The suspects are Alfred Edwards, his cousin Evalyn Lax, and his sister-in-law. - Alfred's brother, Spencer Edwards, was left at Tattnall because he had been shot in the arm when captured Thursday near Hephzibah, and was too ill to be moved.
