Woman Loses Life

LaMaree, who Gen. Meyers said was his “gir] friend” for five years. Mrs. LaMarre was ‘to be recalled to the stand when Gen. Meyers’ federal court trial resumed.

She was called by the prosecution to corroborate the testimony of her husband, B. H. LaMaree, that Gen. Meyers persuaded him to lle to Senate investigators about his activities with an Ohio subcontracting plant.

Parker Faces Life Term in Murder

Times State Service TERRE HAUTE, Ind., Mar. 5 —Arthur E. Parker will be sentenced in Vigo Circuit Court today for the murder of his former landlady five years ago. Parker was found guilty last night of a second degree murder charge of Mrs. Lillian M. Johnson. The all-male jury deliberated only 35 minutes before returning a guilty verdict against the 47-year-old defendant. Judge H. DeWitt Owen will pronounce sentence. Conviction on a second degree murder charge in Indiana carries a mandatory life sentence. Parker was arrested last, December, more than four years after Mrs. Johnson disappeared. Police said he confessed to her murder and led them to three places Where parts of a human skeleton were found. During the trial he repudiated {the confession. He said it was obtained under duress, but it was admitted to evidence. Parker was arrested in September on an assault and battery charge after he is alleged to have grabbed a young woman on a Terre Haute street. While held, he made his confession to the murder.
