Indianapolis attor-, (ney and president of the Marion County Conservation Club Counell, is chairman of the committee drafting the measure for the ad[visory group which represents {conservation organizations throughout the state. The measure is reported as {modeled on the law placing the state police force on a nonpolitical basis. It was discussed at an earlier meeting of the advisory committee,

May Include Others

While the committee's original move was directed toward placing the conservation officers on a nonpolitical bagis. it was Inti mated at the meeting of.the Mar: fon County Council of Conservations Clubs earlier this week that provisions of the measure might be extended to: include other) “technicians” in the department.

Sentiment for such action was expressed during the meeting out|

no formal message to the state committee on the subject was adopted. He It was indicated that the effort to eliminate partisan politics in the selection of conservation officers and to eliminate turnover of the staff following changes in administration should include members of other divisions of the department whose duties require technical training.

Urge Co-operation Representatives of the 10 Marfon county conservation chibs, meeting this week, adopted a resolution calling upon the State | Conservation Advisory Commit-| |tee to extend ‘full co-operation’

Adopted by unanimous action; the resolution will be carried to the March meeting of the advisory committee by the local district representative and its adoption moved.

|" Fate of the resolution before the advisory committee will he; watched with interest as an indi-| cation of whether conservationists will ‘be united in backing up their proposals for natural resource - legislation when the Gen-| eral Assembly convenes next January. Essentially the resolution applies to Conservation United since the president of the state Izaak Walton League and the conservation officer of the state department of the Legion have been honorary members of the! advisory committee for several years.

Plan Water Holes 1

Field trial enthusiasts will welcome announcement by the Conservation Department that a series of waterholes are to be con-| structed at Versailles state park, some of them in the area which is used for holding of field dog trials. Basins to catch and re-| tain surface water will be located’ near plantings which provide both food and cover for birds and other wildlife in the park. Such action was ‘discussed at the recent annual meeting of the {Indiana Field Trial Association; as a means of creating more fa-| vorable conditions for birds in| the area, particularly during dry seasons.
