CHICAGO, Feb. 16 (UP)— Michigan's =~ Wolverines were gathering steam today for their mad dash toward the Big Nine Conference bakketball championship, and a look at the figures gives them a good chance of edging Wisconsin, the leader, out of the crown.

The boys from Ann Arbor, who moved into undisputed second place with their 69-to-56 victory over Purdue Saturday, have more games to play than Wisconsin, but all except one will be played on their home floor.

Michigan plays four at home and one away, while the Badgers hit the road to close the season, playing three away and only one at Madison. So far this year the advantage has been overwhelmingly with the home team. Towa, Illini Falter - Towa, which figured to give Wisconsin a run for its money, and Illinois, which was considered a sleeper that could slip in when the leaders faltered, both fell by the wayside Saturday.
