President Asks UMT Support
‘Others Must Be - Afraid of Strength’
By DAVID WATSON Mrs. LaFell Dickinson, honorary president of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, today urged support by women of Universal Military inig| Training. .
Mrs. Dickinson, who spoke yester-
ment. Club here,
is that they have not really thought the situation through.”
“They do not realize how fpors|
gjatraid of our strength,” she said. "Mrs; E (women have become a power in:the
=/lize it. They must determine to =|have peace. They must get into £ politics, get equal rights, and unite S|for one purpose.” gi Mrs. Dickinson, who visited Russia
iin July, 1946, said even Russian, =|women have equal rights and the =| Russian women want peace.
She was invited to Moscow by Joseph Stalin, as a representative of Russian Relief. The delegation was asked to observe the disposition of $80 million in commodities shipped to Russia. Sees End of Communism “1 dislike communism,” Mrs. Dickinson said, “and do not believe we should’ have a Communist Party here. I believe the time will come when the party is overthrown, even in Russia.” Actually, Mrs. Dickinson added, the Communist Party in Russia is in the minority, but it controls the power of the government. The imajority- of the -Russian-people are. “delightful,” she sald. Russia is like a small boy she sald, continually acting up as long as he has attention. If he is ignored he will soon calm down. “However, be should keep an eye on what he is doing,” she said: Mrs. Dickinson spoke on “From Wings to “Footlights,” yesterday, covering the progress of women from the comparative obscurity of a few years ago to their importance vi She said she was “very enthusiastic” about the work of the Fact Finding Committee in’ Indianapolis, which is sponsored by women’s organizations of the city. Mrs. Dickinson, who has worked for 20 years with women’s organizations, served as president of the! Federation of Women's Clubs for three years, retiring to past presidency in July of last year.
