COMPLETE PROTEIN FOODS always will be more expensive than carbohydrate foods because nature takes longer to produce them. There is, however, considerable variation in the cost of protein foods For example, canned pink salmon is less expensive than the red
One reason is that pink salmon is far more abundant.
Another is that
the red was canned first and became associated with better quality. Actually they both have the same nutritive Valve and taste,

Most Lung Cases By EDWIN P. JORDAN, M.D, STREPTOMYCIN is a substance which is related in a way to pent cillin, Soon after its discovery, the possibility was considered that it might be useful in treating tuberculosis. Testing the effect of a new drug or medicine requires a great deal of work. Fortunately, the Veter. ans’ Administration and the Army and Navy Medical Departments entered into a co-operative plan, aimed at studying the effects of streptomycin on tuberculosis in human beings. Recently, & report of this study, based on 900 patients, has been published. Because tuberculosis is, by its nature, a long-lasting disease, final conclusions are not possible. Nev ertheless, it has been’ confirmed that streptomycin is useful in assisting the treatment of certain kinds of tuberculosis. r ” » IT IS especially helpful in tue berculosis of the meninges (membranes enveloping the brain, and spinal cord) or tuberculous meningitis, in tuberculous infection of the sinuses, in tuberculous ulcerations of the breathing tubes leading to the lungs, and in tuberculosis which has been carried to
i various parts of the body through
the blood stream On the other hand, streptomycin proved to be of little, if any, value in tuberculosis involving the urinary tract or the bones and Joints. It’ is not recommended for most kinds of tuberculosis of the lungs,
! at least at present.
Streptomycin is not a satisfac tory substitute for other treatments which are already known

rugged towels for rough wash-ing-up after hard work out of doors or around machinery. Towels will last longer if they are used In rotation. Clean towels, for example, can be put on the bottom of the pile and fresh towels pulled from the top to insure even wear, To prolong the life of terry towels, launder them before they become so soiled that hard rubbing is necessary to remove grime. If terry towels are snagged, never pull the thread out. Clip it neatly at the surface of the nap. Selvage ravels or breaks should be stitched up immediately to prevent ruinous tears.
