North of course was equally pleased to double that contract, put I think that Weiss: would have made . the contract even without, the double.
. - ” HE WON the opening lead in dummy with the king of diamonds and immediately led the king of spades. North won and led the nine of clubs, which We!-s trumped with the deuce of spades, He then led thy queen of spades, and South's club discard gave him the bad news. The queen of hearts was led next, which is the correct play when dummy holds the ace-i0 (you play for the honors to be split). : -
” - . THE QUEEN .lost to North’s king and back came the eight of clubs, which Weiss trumped. Then "he led the six of hearts and finessed dummy'’s nine-spot. When it held, he led the king of clubs and trumped it, then played the jack of spades, .eaving North with the good 10 of spades, the deuce of hearts and the queen-10 of diamonds. i A small heart was led, the ace winning, and ‘then the 10° of hearts was led. If North trumped with the '0 of spades, he would have -to lead away from the queen-10 of diamonds into dummy's ace-jack. If he refused to trump, and discarded the 10 of diamonds, Weiss would simply give him the last trick with the 10 of spades.
