Beating in toinkev's. Office Under Scrutiny
Prosecutor Judson L: Stark’ will’ be asked today to make a thorough inquiry into the death yesterday of | a city prisoner police are alleged to! {4 have beaten in the turnkey's office, Judge Joseph M. Howard of Mucipal Court 3 asserted he would . [orward to the prosecutor a report | hs Police Chief Howard Sanders made | ifter . the prisoner, Charles Allen, ! 17, of 342 E. Morris 8f., was injured Sept. 15. The judge will recommend that Mr, Stark: “go into the matter thorotighly.” Allen never regained consciousness and how he was injured still remains an uncertainty, | Skull Fractured i Coroner Rb&y B. Storms said following an autopsy that Allen's] death resulted difectly, from “the deterioration of brain tissue.” This was caused by a brain hemorrhage that in turn followed a basal skull! fracture, the coroner added.
Allen was operated on twice to relieve the condition. Dr. Storms observed that there were several scars on the victim's head which appeared to have been received prior to the fracture. Whether a blow or fall caused the fracture, Dr. Storms said he could not determine. Judge Howard spéarheaded a : wave of protest against alleged po- XG lice brutality that spread after Allen was injured. |

of mistreatment of Allen by police. Allen was injured during a drinking session prior to his arrest, the Sanders report suggests, However, one of the mission work- 0; ers, Mrs. Fred Terkhorn, 534 W. 31st uv St., said today she has never been asked to come to the turnkey's office to identify the.two officers she fu? said let the prisoner fall to the ND floor. & Neither has her husband been ask |called, nor the other two workers, as far as she knows.
