The governor, apparently hoped to ald the Republican organization cover up some factional trouble this week when he appointed ‘William R. Higgins, veteran attorney and an older Republican leader who has not been identified with any

So, both were dropped in favor of a “dark horse.” But the “dark horse,” according to the Bradford boys, happens to be a close bersonal friend and distant relative of
Mr. Daniels.
Also the governor's appointment of Joseph Markey, former Democratic Superior Court judge, as new jurist for Municipal Court 1, replacing Louis Weiland, Democrat, caused no little furore in both Republican and Democratic organiza-

Many Republican lawyers were backing Judge Weiland for reappointment as were most all the
Democratic leaders,
Most lawyers were predicting some harsh political friction for Judge Markey after he takes the
bench. Start Maneuverd Early
Both Republican and Democratic leaders are out two months earlier than usual in their back-room maneuvers for the big primary
scramble ‘next May.
The Democrats, sparked to the highest pitch in’ seven years by the mayoralty victory, will be making as much noise as the Republicans next year with about as many fac-

The GOP leadership is moving toward the primary fracas with more cagtion than usual but all the observers are predicting that the races for sheriff and prosecutor nominations will be as bitter as any in the past and that's saying a
