By LOUIS ARMSTRONG | A plea for food shipments by the! United States to France and other
European countries “as an Amersican humanitarian act” was today urged by Paul Kellogg, New York
Mr. Kellogg who voiced his plea in an interview this morning in the| Columbia Club will speak tonight at the 49th Founders Day dinner of Flanner House, Must Aid Humanity “Disregarding our political feelings toward the countries of Europe we must make the emergency shipments of food which are now under discussion in Congress. This country has always held to a policy of alding humanity,” Mr. Kellogg said He continued: “Getting wheat into France this winter means the difference be- | tween whether she remains a rve-| public® or becomes something eise.| “The need is great. On a recent; visit to a hospital in Paris I saw hundreds of young people suffering! from malnutrition and tuberculosis. “If we don't come .to their support it means misery this winter—a thing Americans are not prone to permit if they can help it.” On ‘Scouting’ Trip Mr. Kellogg is executive editor of Survey Graphic and Survey Midmonthly, two magazines dealing with business and economics, Emphasizing his remarks with a bent-stem briar pipe which he is seldom without, the gray-haired publisher said he was on an editorial scouting. trip. He said his magazines plan an extensive series on the world food situation the first of the year,
“We would be blind as bats not to !
send food to Europe, for it is one! of our best emissaries in world poli-! tics,” he declared.
