Also, we are having trouble with out wallpaper loosening and falling from the ceiling. We had our wallpaper removed twice and each time had the walls resized before putting on the new paper but still the paper comes loose in a year or two. What causes this?

If the wall is not properly constructed and braced than it might well be that the door is causing the plaster to crack. Another cause could be an uneven settling between the wall and the chimney. There is also the possibility that the uneven rate of expansion and contraction between the chimney and the wall is the root of your present difficulties. The chief reason for wallpaper coming loose is that moisture has somehow got in back to the paste causing it to fail. You might check the wall and see if there is any sign of dampness. Other causes of wallpaper failure are improperly mixed size and poor quality paste,
