NATIONAL 24-HOUR FORECAST SUMMARY: Early morning temperatures will fall below freezing from the’ Northwest Pacific states through most of the western half of the U. 8, and as far eastward as the Eastern Lakes. Readings in -the Atlantic states are expected in the cool 40's, while the Gulf states are ruled by cool 50's (see Fotocast freezing line for defined areas of below 32-degree

temperatures)

The main feature of the weather map is the cold high pressure area moving south out of Canada. The circulation around this system will bring cold northerly winds into the nation, in contrast to the southeasterly winds on the Atlantic Coast (see Fotocast for airflow arrows. Weathermen foresee cloudy conditions resulting from this contrasting air flow, with most of the country being

dominated by cloudy to partly cloudy skies (see inset map for detailed cloud coverage). The forecasted positions of the pressure systems on Fotocast, and the ensuing over-running of

result in a wide area of occasional rain from the New England States to the Gulf. Precipitation along the cold front indicated on Fotocast will be in the form <of snow. Snow showers are also foreseen, in | the Western Plains: See Fotocast

Minimum temperature forecasts include: Washington, 45; New York and Philadelphia, 40; Cleveland, 39; Boston, 36; St. Louis, 30; Chicago, 23; Kansas City, 24; Milwaukee, 18, Duluth, 5. Fotocast Fans will note that little clearing is taking place with the passage of the cold front. However, gradual improvement
