Mr. Pittenger, who was 78, died Tuesday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ross Rissler, El Paso, Tex. In 1019 he was appointed superintendent of the Indiana State School] for the Deaf. He held the post for six years. Before joining the deaf school Mr. Pittenger had been a superintendent of -Pranklin schools and a professor at Ball State Teachers College in 1918,
