The correct (last) Name for this Puzzle appears below:
William PENN George ROSS
This is a lesson in how to solve a set of puzzles that can lead you to a cash reward of as much as $30,000.00. Please read carefully the explanation which follows. | Each puzzle represents a well-known American name and in the puzzles there are shown various objects, letters, and abbreviations with plus and minus signs indicating whether to add or subtract the letters that make these up. Your job is to recognize the objects and clues, and according to the plus and minus signs, work out the correct name for each particular puzzle, But let's work out the sample puzzle above to see just how it works: There we see a GOAT, to which we add PIPE as directed by the plus sign, plus the letters L. H. We therefore jot down the letters GOATPIPELH. We are next told (by the minus sign) to subtract what is apparently a POT, so we cross out the let-

ters P OT. leaving the letters GAIP ELH. Then we are told to take away the abbreviation of GENERAL ISSUE, which we all know is G. |, and we are also instructed to subtract the letter P. Thus, crossing out G, | and then the letter P, we are finally left with the letters: -A E L H. So we fit those letters into the squares to the right of the equal sign, and since they fit exactly (four letters, four squares) it appears that we are right thus far. But there still remains one thing to do. We must unscramble and re-arrange those letters so as to form an American name, What name can it be? Can it be HEAL? Nol Can it be AHEL? No! Can it be HALE? Why, of course! And to verify our answer, sure enough there's the name Nathan HALE in the list under the puzzle. Get the idea?
