skates than most of us are with shoes on. In spangly, many-colpred costumes they exec routines both difficult and dangefous. And they do all those fascinating things as easily as grade-school kids do elementary calisthenics, The show is dreamlike and hyp notice, That continual smooth and rapid movement of the cones of spotlight following the skaters gets you, It's not like: the theater, where you're outside looking in. It's the Land of Oz or the top of Jack's beanstalk, with ‘only the remotest resemblance to reality, A lot has been sald about “escape” dramas and films - those that take | us out of the harsh world of fact. I think the Sonja Henie show is! better than most such entertainment, if only because it deals in harmless illusion instead of danger-| ous delusion. Unlike gangster movles and comic books, it makes no appeal to our hidden but all-too-human . desire to be. powerful, shrewd and ruthless,

Another observation: The brass hats of the outfit seem to arrange each show (I've seen three) so that no will outshiné Miss Henfe., I think that's a mistake, The one and only time I saw the great Anna Pavlova, Mme, Pavlova didn’t seem too worried about sharing the lime- | light, | Miss Henle doesn't have to worry | about anybody sharing the lime-| light, She has the glory and the prestige. The point is that ceaseless fretting about passing years cramps. any star's style. | Mentions would take a lot of space. Michael Kirby, Harrison | Thomson and Geary Steffen are all expert as Miss Henie's partners. | Mr. Steffen and John Jolliffe do a marvelously precise routine, And
